Gaighat is the Headquarter of this district. The major area of this district is covered by tropical and subtropical climate. It is bounded in the east by Sunsari, west by Sindhuli and Dhanusha district. In the North, it is bounded by Okhaldhunga, Khotang and Bhojpur District and in the south by Siraha and Saptari District. Places To Visit in Udayapur :
Indreswor Mahadev Temple: After a walk of around one kilometer from the headquarter of Udayapur i.e. Gaighat, we can reach the temple of Indreshwor Mahadev. This temple is considered as holy as the temple of Pashupatinath. People from all community and culture have access to enter this temple.
Rautaha Pokhari: It is situated in Rautaha VDC and is at about two thousand feet above the sea level. This pond is surrounded by evergreen tall forest. This pound makes everyone attract towards it by its unique beauty.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve: The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is a protected area in the Terai of eastern Nepal covering 175 km² of wetlands in the Sunsari, Saptari and Udayapur Districts which comprises extensive mudflats, reed beds, and freshwater marshes in the floodplain of the Sapta Kosi River, and ranges in altitude from 75 to 81 m.
