Terathum District is one of the districts situated in the hilly region of Eastern Development region in Koshi Zone which is believed that the name of this district is derived from the number of hills situated in this district. In Nepali, Tehra means 13 and Thum means Peak so the name Tehrathum means the place with 13 peaks which is situated in the altitude range from 354 meters to 2,963 meters covering an area of 679 km². Terathum district is settled in between Taplejung, Panchthar, Dhankuta and Sankhuwasabha District and is popularly known as the kingdom of Rhododendron. This is an under developing district but there are good roadways to reach the Headquarter of Tehrathum such as Myanglung Bazar. Majority of people are from the Limbu community in this place but we also can find Bramins, Chettri and Rai Community people here.

There are lots of places to visit in this district like Singha Bahini Temple, Siddha Devi temple, Jal Kanya Devi Temple, Pancha Kanya Devi are few of the religiously important place of Tehrathum. Hyatrung Waterfall, Tinjure hill, Tinjure-Milke-jaljale area, Margha Pokhari are few of the naturally important place.

 Places To Visit In Terathum:

Hyatrung Waterfall: This is the tallest waterfall in Nepal which is located in between Isibu and Samdu VDC. This waterfall is among the 30 highest waterfalls in the World.

 

Tinjure Hill: The name Tinjure itself consists of 3 peaks and is one of the best places in Terhathum for Trekking from where can view beautiful view of Mt.Kanchanjunga, Kumbakarna from this place.

Tinjure-Milke-Jaljale Area: This area is popular for Rhododendron. We can find 28 types of Rhododendron among the 32 Verity in this area. Due to that specific reason, this place is also known as the Kingdom of Rhododendron in Nepal. If you want to visit this place during the month of Falgun, Chaitra and Baishak than the view of the colorful forest make you lost in its beauty.

 

Singhabahini Temple: This temple is situated in the heart of Myanglung Bazar which is believed that if anyone who prays in this holy place with the pure heart than their wish gets fulfilled. Singabahini Devi temple is one of the most renowned holy places in Terhathum and if you are planning to visit Terhathum than you must have to visit this place.

Marg Pokhari: Marg Pokhari is another natural pond on the lap of the hills. The pond holds religious value and scenic beauty. It is located at the height of about 2,600 meters which has contributed to keeping the surroundings green. Marg Pokhari watershed area has a dense forest that habitats popular species of rhododendron and precious plants. Marg Pokhari is on the way to Basantapur from Sindhuwa, which is 5 kilometers from Basantapur Bazaar.

 

Shukrabare Bazaar: Shukrabare Bazaar in Hammarjung VDC, a weekly fair is showcasing the mixed culture of the settlements. Majority of the inhabitants here are Limbus. Thus, it is an ideal place and time to experience the rich Limbu cultures. The village is popular for traditional weaved Kadhi. The village can be reached via Sindhuwa Bazaar which is another popular area of Basantapur.

 

Panchakanya Pokhari: Panchakanya Pokhari is another popular tourist site which is also known as Chhathar Pokhari, Panchakanya Pokhari is approximately 2-hour walk further down from Shukrabare Bazaar. Among the many ponds, the biggest pond that lies in the area is Panchakanya.
