Taplejung District, a region of Mechi Zone, is one amongst 75 districts of Nepal with Taplejung as its district headquarters, which covers an area of 3,646 km²and includes a population of 12,461 according to 2011 census. The name Taplejung comes from the words “Taple” and “Jung”. Taple was the medieval Limbu King who used to rule this area and “Jung” in Limbu language it means Fort. Literally, Taplejung means that Fort of King Taple. Taplejung is found in Northeastern Nepal the Tamor river flows through the district which is known for its proximity to Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain within the world.
Most of the population are concerned in agriculture, and also the vegetation zones vary from sub-tropical to temperate forests, alpine meadows, and snow, and ice.
