DOLPA

Dolpa lies in Karnali Zone of Nepal. Dunai is the district headquarter. The district, with an area of 7,889 sq. km is the largest district of Nepal in terms of size. It is divided into 23 VDCs and has no municipalities. Dolpa has 7,488 households with a total population of 36,700. Although Dolpa covers a large area, due to less population residing in the area, the population density is just 4.65sq.km.

The Dolpo region covers 15% of the total area of Nepal and has been arbitrarily divided into a Lower and Upper region. It's the highest inhabited land in Nepal, hidden behind high passes from the south and lying northwest of Dhaulagiri and also the Kali Gandaki gorge. Places to Visit Phoksundo: Phoksundo, the deepest lake of Nepal which is famous for its crystal clear water and turquoise color.

There is no any aquatic creature the lake remains forever neat and clean watered. Shey Phoksundo National Park: Shey Phoksundo National Park the largest national park in the country where endangered species like Snow Leopard, musk deer, etc. have been protected. Peak like Mt.Putha: A peak like Mt.Putha wherever skiing is found possible and the river Bheri provides a very sensible excitement for the kayakers. Buddhist’s holy place Crystal mountain and Shey Gompa: Shey Gompa is a spiritual heart of Dolpo, which has a legendary connection in Buddhism. Shey Gompa holds three major gompas such as Shel Sundo Gonpa, Komache Gompa, Tsakang Gompa. Tinje Valley: The Tinje village is a beautiful village of upper Dolpo, set above the confluence of main Panzang River and Polte Khola. Situated at the 4110m altitude Tinje village is a flat terrain village of Upper Dolpo.

Tinje has the only a historic fort remains of Upper Dolpo. Polte village is and another part of Tinje village where the plethora of monasteries found in deep isolation. These are Tolung which is a 300m climb up and Balung both are on the Northeast hillside. Dho Tarap Valley: Dho Tarap valley human settlement in the highest elevation. Upper Dolpo: Upper Dolpo Upper Mustang where old Tibetan culture is found in its primitive form. Chharka Village: Chharka is located 4200m from sea level located in the east of Dolpo district. It is also the highest human settlement in the world. Chharka is very compact, almost like a medieval fortified village.

Houses are closer together than in other Dolpo villages, and they seem to be built higher, three stories in some cases. There is only one entrance into the old town, and the houses’ yak pens form a kind of wall around the town. It may be that the narrow valley limits the amount of arable land, so the locals have chosen to limit sprawl.

Kanjiruba: Kanjiruba sanctuary is the complex massif of deep gorges, fast-flowing rivers, and jagged peaks and the highest is the Kanjiruba South (6883m) and Kanjiruba North (6289m). This both Kanjirubas are surrounded by numerous peaks like, on north Bhulu Lhasa (6102m), Patrasi (6450m), on the west Kande Huinchuli (6627m), on the east Kang Nyung Than(6248m), Chokarpo (6058), Tso Karpo Kang(6556m), Tripura Thumna(6553m) and on the west She-Shikhar(6139), Palta Thumna(6126m), Bijora Huinchuli(6111m) Lhashmma(6412m). Tichorong: Tichorong, the village where the people speak typical dialect ‘Kaike’ that is not spoken anywhere else.
